Program Management Can Help Improve Execution There has been much talk lately in the business press about the need for companies to execute better. The implication is that their strategies are not at fault for their company’s underperformance, but rather that they have failed to successfully execute their strategy. According to Accenture 70% of companies feel they selected correct strategy but failed to execute it. Why do companies fail to execute? Implementing a Program Management culture can help. Risk Management In January of this year, The Cistek Group conducted an informal non-scientific survey of suppliers of electronic record keeping and risk managment software to see what affect, if any, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 was having on their sales. It appears the act will have an impact on sales in 2004. Responses where typical of this one from Kate Giles who is with Methodware, a risk management software supplier: "our inquiries have more than doubled since the introduction of Sarbanes-Oxley. Obviously this has an effect on sales." Electronic Record keeping software suppliers such as IBM are hopeful that the act will drive corporations towards formal electronic record keeping as a way of preventing accidental destruction of records that may be needed to comply with the act. -ab You would think that if your name was on the
